about

Recorded at The Warehouse Theater in Colorado Springs, Live was renowned cowboy poet Waddie Mitchell’s first album for the Western Jubilee Recording Company. Growing up on ranches in Elko, Nevada, Mitchell came of age engrossed in the lifestyle of the American cowboy. While learning to handle horses and cattle, he also picked up the rich song and storytelling tradition of the buckaroo—a tradition generally referred to as “cowboy poetry.” Co-founder of the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, Mitchell is among the most significant modern proponents of the tradition. On Live, he recites a seamless mix of classic and original yarns and poems, accompanied musically by Western legends Rich O’Brien, Norman Blake, and Don Edwards.
